A chocoholics paradise

Villajoyosa - meaning 'the joyful town' - can be found a mere ten minute drive along the coast from Benidorm, direction Alicante. Once a busy fishing village, it now combines manufacturing with tourism. Its wide golden sandy beach stretches the whole length of the town and at its end you'll find a picturesque small harbour overlooked by many tiny houses painted in bright, gaudy colours! Why? Well in years gone by these gaudy colours would aid returning fisherman find their way home following a day out at sea!

Villajoyosa has a number of historical buildings. Roman bridges, a delightful gothic church and a 16th century watchtower that in its day would give warnings against raids from the Berber Pirates.

The old centre of the town celebrates a bustling market with many of its stalls selling locally made artefacts. The town's main income, however, comes from its fishing industry and its chocolate making. Visitors to the Chocolate Museum are invited to taste a variety of mouth watering samples - If you go once - they guarantee that you will return a second time!

All in all visitors are assured an enjoyable day out in Villajoyosa. A combination of quaint old buildings and multi-coloured facades packed into narrow streets. A lively fish market selling off the daily catch. A pretty location on the mouth of a river. A sweeping white sandy beach. And chocolate tasting to boot! You can'y go wrong really?
